Great game!
»
I loved this game as a kid and thought it would be a hit with my 9 year old. I was right! He loves it ... we've had fun playing together and looking at different strategies, and he will even play both sides on his own. He is not big into games that aren't video games, but this kept his attention for several hours.

Easy to learn, so much fun!
»
I bought this game on a whim for my 13 year old daughter. We both learned the rules in about three minutes and have been playing it constantly every since. A game only takes 10-15 minutes to play. As we both learn better strategies, the game gets more fun and challenging. We usually end up playing several games at a time. Of all the board games I bought for my children for Christmas, this is the best one!

Two boys' review: Poor construction, materials take away the fun
»
First, let me say this game is fun if you are playing on a quality game board with quality playing pieces.
Othello is a great game for young children. The rules are easy to learn and this game provides a solid education in basic strategy.
However, I set aside my own nostalgia for this game and looked at the reality of what's inside the box.
Here's the negatives:
This game board is cheap.
The poor construction means poor durability; the faux felt is already peeling away from the board.
The board is designed so tight that the game pieces almost have to be snapped into place when you flip them.
The game pieces are thinner and harder to pick up, especially for older hands (beware grandparents).
Steer clear of this version from Mattel. See if you can find a better quality version of the game. It makes a difference.
Message to Mattel: I'd rather pay the extra $10-$15 for you to provide better-quality materials. Cheap construction like this makes me think twice about buying your other games.

Othello; 2 minutes to learn but a lifetime of fun.
»
The good thing about Othello is that it takes just minutes to learn and almost everyone can learn it. It's all logical with no luck unless you're a beginner and things just fall into place.
There's so many levels of play as well.
Overall, a can't go wrong game for folks that like to use their brains.

Othello

I bought this toy as a birthday gift for my son. My grandmother had given me this game as a child and I was happy to find that it was still around and to pass on the enjoyment of it on to my children. I think the toy is both fun and durable. It promotes strategic thinking and is generally a good 2-player game.
