Review of Transformer Chess Set
»
My five-year old grandson really loved playing chess with this set. It took Grandma a while to get used to the pieces but one can easily identify them because the traditional symbols are marked on the sides of each piece. Only negative was a chemical smell to the pieces.Transformers Chess Set

Strong paint odor, impossible to repack, hard to recognise
»
I received this for my son for the holidays. My first impression was a very strong overwhelming paint odor. The other problem was trying to identify the pieces. Fortunately the pieces have a small symbol at the base to show what it is. But it does make it difficult to play, as it is very easy to misidentify a piece.
My last beef was it's a bit difficult to repack as they are vacuum packed in plastic and finding the correct location for each piece is impossible.
If you want a chess set go out and buy a chess set. This is only useful if you are a collector of some sorts.

fun, but not super anything
»
We love chess sets at our house and I thought this would be an awesome addition. The pieces are just okay. They're decently durable unless you have smaller children visit and then I wouldn't leave the set out. Also, the pieces aren't real easy to differentiate, so only the super geeks (which we have some in our family) will be able to really play without inspecting the pieces before their move. Still, the set looks pretty cool on display. :)

my son LOVES this
»
my son is 6 and has been in the chess club for the past 7 months. he knows the moves and the pieces so i wasn't nervous about getting his this set. he knew right away which piece was what and played without any problems. i didn't notice any funny plastic smell and even though the pieces look like pewter, they are durable plastic, which is just fine with him and me. it's a good set and it made him happy and he can't wait to take the set to school and show it off to his buddies.
