But these dice ain't got no spots on them -- they're blank!
»
The script of the musical "Guys and Dolls" calls for a set of blank dice, to which unlucky craps player Big Jule turns after losing "26 gs" with regular dice:
Big Jule: "And, to change my luck, I will now use my own dice. ... I had them made for me especially in Chicago."
Nathan Detroit: "But -- these dice ain't got no spots on them. They're blank!"
Big Jule: "I had the spots taken off for luck. But I remember where the spots formerly were!"
These were perfect for the show -- I got enough to provide a principal pair for stage use and a couple of back-up pairs in case they shot off the edge of the stage or somehow disappeared. These looked and worked so much better than the alternative, which was daubing Liquid Paper into the spots of regular dice.
